History of the monument

Masterpiece of Romanesque art. Built between the 11th and 13th centuries and famed for its capitals, the Abbey features outstanding examples of sculpture and architectural remains.

A landscape from another time. Set around a large meadow and majestic trees, the Abbey, open to the elements, stands in over 200 hectares of grounds enclosed by a surrounding wall.

In the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers region. Between Garonne and Dordogne, the Abbey takes its name from the Silva Major or "great forest".
